To this day, Spain and the guitar remain inseparable. However, Serenades of Spain goes beyond the clichés to reveal a rich musical heritage where tradition meets innovation. Three centuries of musical history are brought to life through three guitars from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. The instruments' unique characters and individualities are revealed, both in solo pieces and in dialogue with voice and cello.

The album presents a mosaic of sound worlds that showcase the guitar in all its versatility, from the refined Renaissance music of the Antwerp lutenist Emmanuel Adriaenssen and the Baroque dance rhythms of Gaspar Sanz to the Romantic expression of Fernando Sor and the impressionistic colours of the brothers Regino and Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. New arrangements of works by Pablo de Sarasate and Enrique Granados present the guitar in a surprising light when combined with the cello and voice.

With an eye for history and a sense of authenticity, Serenades of Spain paints a vivid portrait of the country in all its contrasts. Spanish liveliness, poetry and nostalgia run through the music like threads, moving between courtly elegance and rural fervour. The guitar takes centre stage as an instrument that brings centuries of emotion and expression to life.
