Piet (Jozef) Swerts

Piet Jozef Swerts (b. 1960, Tongeren) is a Belgian composer, conductor, and pianist with an international reputation and a catalogue of over 240 works spanning opera, orchestral, chamber, choral, and piano music. A laureate of the Lemmens-Tinel Prize, he studied at the Leuven College of Arts, where he has been Professor of Composition and Orchestration since 1982. His works have been commissioned and performed worldwide, and recent projects include his 24 Straight Strung Piano Sonatas, the double concerto Passions, and commissions for Il Gardelino and saxophonist Arno Bornkamp.
