Nuccio D'Angelo
(°1955)
Contemporary, Italy
Nuccio D’Angelo is an Italian composer and guitarist whose music combines contemporary techniques with a strong sense of melody and lyrical expression. His compositions are particularly associated with the classical guitar, for which he has developed an individual language characterized by rich sonorities, subtle harmonies and expressive use of the instrument’s colours. His music draws on a wide range of influences, including popular music, jazz, non-Western musical traditions and the music of composers such as Astor Piazzolla. He has written works for solo guitar as well as for chamber ensembles and larger forces, also composing for other instruments and combinations. Traditional parameters such as melody, harmony and rhythm coexist with more contemporary approaches, as illustrated by works such as Due Canzoni Lidie and Electric Suite.
