Guillaume Dufay
(1397?-1474)
Renaissance, Belgium, France
Guillaume Dufay was a Franco-Flemish composer who bridged late medieval and renaissance musical styles. He served various courts and the church, notably in Rome, Florence, and Cambrai. He is celebrated for his masses, motets, and secular chansons. His work often utilized fauxbourdon and established foundational techniques for the 15th-century mass, such as the use of cantus firmus.
