Roland Coryn
(°1938)

Roland Coryn (Kortrijk, 1938) is a Belgian composer and educator. Trained at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in piano, viola, chamber music, and composition, he performed early in his career with ensembles including the Flemish Piano Quartet and the Belgian Chamber Orchestra. From the 1970s he focused on composition, earning awards such as the Jef Van Hoof Prize and the Visser-Neerlandia Prize. He taught at the music academies of Harelbeke and Izegem, directed the SAMW Peter Benoit, and led The New Conservatory Ensemble at Ghent, mentoring composers including Lucien Posman and Rudi Tas. He also organized the Harelbeke Music Biennales and the International Wind Composition Competition, promoting Belgian music.
