Jurgen De Pillecyn

(°1965)

Contemporary, Belgium

Jurgen De Pillecyn (b.1965) is a Belgian composer and educator. Trained in piano, percussion, and harmony at the academies of Hamme and Leuven, he studied musicology at KU Leuven and later composition, counterpoint, and fugue at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with highest distinction under Rafaël D’Haene. His music spans piano, organ, chamber, vocal, and orchestral works, often grounded in traditional forms and thematic development. While his harmonic language is largely free-atonal, it retains clarity and balance, drawing affinities with Szymanowski and Dutilleux. De Pillecyn’s works are frequently inspired by literary sources and commissioned by institutions including Axion Classics, the International Saxophone Competition of Dinant, and the Flemish Community. He teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Schaarbeek Music Academy and is a member of the Robert Schumann Gesellschaft in Düsseldorf.
