François Bouvard
(c.1684-760)
Baroque, France
François Bouvard (c.1684–1760) was a French Baroque composer. He began his career as a soprano at the Académie Royale de Musique before studying violin and composition in Rome. His stage works include the tragédies lyriques Médus (1702) and Cassandre (1706). He also wrote secular cantatas, a grand motet (Usquequo, Domine), instrumental sonatas, and collections of airs with continuo. His output combines French vocal traditions with Italianate instrumental writing, reflecting the cosmopolitan character of early 18th-century Paris.
