Belgium, Contemporary

Annelies Van Parys is one of Belgium’s leading composers. She writes solo and chamber music works as well as large orchestral compositions with a great preference for music theatre. She received direct commissions from venues and performers all over Europe and was awarded numerous prizes (amongst them, the Fedora-Rolf Liebermann for Opera). She is currently professor of composition at the Royal Conservatory department of the Brussels University College. Her musical language has been influenced by spectralism, which she explored in works such as Meditation (2005).
