S'Embra
In 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Bram Van Weverberg and Hans Vercauteren took the initiative to create a few new works for accordion. Their sound palette quickly expanded with the addition of Emmanuel Tondues’ cello, leading to the creation of the Bird Crowd suite for accordion and cello. This suite was first performed alongside a song cycle titled Birds Asleep, featuring vocalist Helene Bracke.
The following year, Bram and Emmanuel decided to further develop their collaboration as a duo. They put together a program of contemporary music that thoughtfully explores the unique combination of accordion and cello. Night and dreams remain central themes in their repertoire, where the broad, deep sounds of both instruments truly shine.
The duo chose the name s’Embra, short for the French word "s’embrasser," to evoke the cozy, warm feeling of an embrace they aim to convey through their music.
