Geert Callaert
Belgian composer and pianist Geert Callaert studied at the Lemmens Institute, graduating with the prestigious Lemmens-Tinel Prize. He furthered his training under notable figures such as Kurt Bikkembergs, Jan Van der Roost, and Luc Van Hove. A professor at HOGENT & Howest – KASK & Conservatorium Ghent and a scholarship holder at the Orpheus Institute, he is also a core member of the HERMESensemble. In 2016, he received the FUGA Trophy from the Union of Belgian Composers for his commitment to Belgian art music.
Throughout his career, Callaert has collaborated with leading ensembles and orchestras including the Belgian National Orchestra and Brussels Philharmonic, and worked with renowned artists such as Koen Kessels, Joan La Barbara, and Ed Spanjaard. He has performed on over 30 recordings and contributed to several international film scores. As a composer, he draws inspiration from literature, visual art, and the First Viennese School. His catalogue includes solo, chamber, orchestral, and vocal works, with a particular focus on madrigals, widely performed and recorded internationally.
